Coldwater, MI (January 8, 2025) – A 53-year-old man is in critical condition following a bicycle accident on Michigan Ave north of East Chicago St on Wednesday morning. Coldwater Police were dispatched to the scene around 8:08 a.m. after reports of a cyclist being struck by a passing vehicle.

Emergency responders from the Coldwater Fire Department and LifeCare Ambulance quickly arrived and provided medical care to the injured bicyclist. He was later transported to a hospital in Fort Wayne for further treatment due to the severity of his injuries.

Coldwater Police have enlisted the help of a traffic crash reconstructionist from the Michigan State Police to assist in investigating the incident. The circumstances surrounding the crash are still under review, and additional details are expected as the investigation progresses.

Our thoughts are with the injured man, and we wish him a full and swift recovery.

Bicycle Accidents in Michigan

Bicyclists are among the most vulnerable road users, especially on busy streets like Michigan Ave. Traffic accidents involving bicycles often result in severe injuries due to the lack of physical protection for riders.

In Michigan, thousands of bicycle-related accidents are reported annually, with many leading to critical injuries or fatalities. Intersections and major roadways are particularly high-risk areas for such incidents. Both drivers and cyclists are encouraged to exercise caution: drivers should remain alert for cyclists, and bicyclists should ensure they are visible and adhere to traffic laws.
