Cloquet, MN (October 30, 2024) – A traffic accident occurred on October 29, 2024, at approximately 4:44 a.m. on Southbound Highway 45, approximately one mile south of Interstate 35. Emergency responders were dispatched to the scene following reports of a collision involving a vehicle and a bicyclist.
According to preliminary reports, a 2008 Ford Focus, driven by 60-year-old Daryl Lloyd Bong from Wrenshall, MN, struck a bicyclist, identified as 34-year-old Michael Lawrence Benson, also from Wrenshall. Both individuals sustained non-life-threatening injuries as a result of the collision. Daryl Bong was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the incident, while Michael Benson was not wearing a helmet.
Emergency services transported Daryl Bong to Community Memorial Hospital for treatment, while Michael Benson was taken to Essentia – Duluth for his injuries. Fortunately, both individuals are expected to recover.
The road conditions at the time of the accident were reported as dry, which may have contributed to the circumstances surrounding the incident. The Cloquet Police Department and Carlton County Sheriff’s Office are involved in the investigation.
