Clinton County, MO (January 16, 2025) – A collision involving two vehicles on MO-116 near Vandeau Rd, approximately two miles east of Plattsburg, left one person injured early Wednesday morning. The crash occurred at approximately 7:45 AM and was investigated by TPR B.T. Quiring of Troop H.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, both vehicles were traveling eastbound on MO-116 when the 2017 Dodge Durango, driven by a 33-year-old woman from Cameron, stopped to wait for another vehicle turning northbound. A 2013 Chevrolet 2500, driven by a 38-year-old man from Plattsburg, crested a hill and struck the Dodge.
The impact caused significant damage to both vehicles, which came to rest in different locations. The Chevrolet partially blocked MO-116, while the Dodge came to rest off the north side of the road. Both vehicles were towed from the scene by Shoemaker’s Tow due to extensive damage.
The Dodge driver sustained injuries and was transported to Cameron Regional Medical Center by Tri-County EMS. The Chevrolet driver did not report any injuries. Both drivers were wearing safety devices, which likely reduced the severity of the injuries sustained.
The Clinton County Sheriff’s Department assisted at the scene. The crash remains under investigation as authorities work to determine contributing factors.
Hillcrest Collisions in Missouri
Hills and other roadway features that limit visibility can increase the risk of accidents, particularly when vehicles ahead are stopped or slowing. In rural areas like MO-116 near Plattsburg, these risks are compounded by higher speed limits and less traffic control infrastructure.
Missouri accident data highlights the importance of maintaining safe following distances and reducing speed when approaching hills or other potential blind spots. For drivers, being alert and prepared for sudden stops ahead can prevent serious crashes.
