Clinton County, MO (November 8, 2024) – A multi-vehicle collision involving a tractor-trailer, a pickup truck, and a freightliner resulted in serious injuries Friday morning on northbound I-35 near the 43.8-mile marker, approximately three miles north of Lathrop.
The crash occurred at approximately 10:15 AM when traffic on I-35 began to slow. A 2024 Volvo tractor-trailer (Vehicle #1) rear-ended a 1999 Ford F250 pickup truck (Vehicle #2) that had been slowing in traffic. The impact caused the Ford F250 to veer off the road, skid sideways, and overturn before coming to rest on its wheels. The tractor-trailer then struck the trailer unit being hauled by a 2025 Freightliner Cascadia (Vehicle #3), which was also slowing. The Freightliner sustained minor damage and remained operational, while its trailer was towed from the scene. Both the tractor-trailer and the Freightliner came to rest in the northbound lanes of I-35.
Emergency personnel from Cameron Ambulance, Tri-County EMS, and the Clinton County Sheriff’s Department responded to the scene.
- Injuries reported include:
- The driver of the tractor-trailer, a 47-year-old male from Geneva, IL, sustained minor injuries and was transported to Liberty Hospital.
- The driver of the Ford F250, a 69-year-old male from Lathrop, MO, suffered serious injuries and was also transported to Liberty Hospital.
- A 59-year-old female occupant of the Ford F250, also from Lathrop, sustained serious injuries and was taken to Liberty Hospital by Tri-County EMS.
Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the collision, with assistance from multiple Missouri State Highway Patrol units and the Clinton County Sheriff’s Department. Traffic along I-35 was impacted during the emergency response and cleanup.
Our thoughts are with those injured in this collision, and we wish them a full recovery.
Highway Accidents in Missouri
Missouri highways, including I-35, are vital transportation corridors but often experience heavy traffic and frequent collisions. Multi-vehicle accidents involving large trucks like this one highlight the risks associated with highway driving, particularly during traffic slowdowns. Rear-end collisions remain a leading cause of highway crashes, emphasizing the importance of maintaining safe following distances and adhering to speed limits.
Rollover incidents, such as the one involving the Ford F250 in this crash, often result in severe injuries due to the vehicle’s instability upon impact. Drivers and passengers are encouraged to use seat belts and follow defensive driving practices to mitigate the risks.
Recovering from highway accidents can be physically, emotionally, and financially challenging. Accessing timely resources and guidance is essential for victims to navigate the aftermath effectively.
