Clinton County, MO (February 18, 2025) – A serious head-on collision on Interstate 35, four miles south of Cameron, left four people injured Monday morning. The crash occurred at approximately 10:30 a.m. near the 48-mile marker, prompting emergency crews to respond to the scene.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, a 2015 Ford F-150, driven by a 74-year-old Chillicothe, MO, man, was traveling southbound on I-35 when the driver lost control on an ice- and snow-covered roadway. The vehicle crossed the median and entered the northbound lanes, where it collided head-on with a 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by a 78-year-old woman from Gatesville, TX.
The impact left both vehicles with total damage. The Ford F-150 came to rest blocking both northbound lanes, while the Jeep Grand Cherokee veered off the east side of the highway, struck a guardrail, and came to a stop partially blocking a northbound driving lane.
Emergency responders transported the Jeep driver and her 85-year-old male passenger, both of whom sustained serious injuries, to Liberty Hospital. The Ford driver suffered injuries, while his 65-year-old female passenger sustained moderate injuries; both were taken to Cameron Regional Medical Center for treatment.
Authorities confirmed that all occupants were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash. Scotty’s Towing removed both heavily damaged vehicles from the scene. The Clinton County Sheriff’s Department and the Cameron Fire Department assisted at the crash site. The investigation into the accident remains ongoing. Our thoughts are with those injured, and we hope for their full recovery.
Winter Weather and Crash Risks in Missouri
Winter weather poses a significant danger to drivers in Missouri, particularly on highways like I-35, where high speeds and icy conditions increase the risk of losing control. Snow and ice reduce tire traction, making it more difficult to stop or steer safely. Incidents like this one, where a vehicle crosses into oncoming lanes due to slippery conditions, highlight the importance of adjusting driving behavior in winter weather.
To reduce the risk of crashes during icy or snowy conditions, drivers are encouraged to slow down, increase following distances, and avoid sudden braking or steering movements. Using winter tires and keeping vehicles well-maintained can also improve traction and handling in poor weather.
For those injured in crashes, seeking prompt medical attention is critical, even for seemingly minor injuries. The effects of a collision, especially head-on impacts, can be more severe than they initially appear. Accessing medical and legal resources can be essential in managing recovery and any potential claims for damages.
