Cliffside Park, NJ (December 30, 2024) – A dramatic rescue unfolded late Sunday night when Cliffside Park firefighters and EMTs responded to a condo fire on Gorge Road near Cottage Place. The blaze, reported around 10:45 p.m., left one individual unconscious and severely burned, requiring immediate intervention from emergency responders.
Firefighters faced challenging conditions, including extreme hoarding, as they navigated the second-floor unit of the four-story brick building to locate and extricate the victim. The individual, suffering from first-degree burns and smoke inhalation, was revived on-site by borough EMTs and transported to Hackensack University Medical Center for further care.
A firefighter sustained a minor injury and was treated at the scene. The fire was declared under control shortly before 11:30 p.m., approximately 45 minutes after it ignited. Due to the severity of the injuries, the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Arson Investigations Unit has been notified, and investigations into the cause of the fire are ongoing.
