Clermont, FL (March 6, 2025) – A Wesley Chapel woman was killed early Wednesday morning in a wrong-way crash on State Road 33 near County Road 474, according to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP).

Authorities reported that at approximately 1 a.m., a 39-year-old man from Greensboro, North Carolina, was driving a 2004 GMC Sierra northbound in the southbound lanes of SR-33 when he collided head-on with a 2007 Hyundai Sonata driven by a 27-year-old woman from Wesley Chapel.

The impact caused the Sonata to rotate clockwise, while the Sierra overturned as a result of the crash. Emergency responders arrived at the scene and transported the woman to Lakeland Regional Medical Center, where she was pronounced deceased. The driver of the Sierra was airlifted to Osceola Regional Medical Center with serious injuries.

FHP is actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.

Our deepest condolences go out to the family of the victim, and we hope for a full recovery for the injured driver.

Wrong-Way Accidents in Florida

Wrong-way crashes are among the most dangerous types of accidents, often resulting in severe injuries or fatalities due to the high-speed nature of head-on collisions. Many of these incidents occur at night or in low-visibility conditions, with driver impairment, distraction, or unfamiliarity with roadways being common contributing factors.

Tragically, victims of wrong-way accidents often suffer catastrophic injuries or lose their lives, leaving families to deal with emotional and financial hardships. Funeral costs, medical bills, and lost income can add to the burden in the wake of such an unexpected tragedy. Understanding legal options is crucial for those affected, as wrongful death or injury claims may provide the necessary support for families seeking justice.
