Clearwater, FL (February 14, 2025) – A tragic plane crash in a Clearwater mobile home community claimed the lives of three people Thursday evening, including one crewmember and two residents on the ground, according to a preliminary report from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
The crash occurred at Bayside Waters, a mobile home park formerly known as Japanese Gardens, shortly after 7:08 p.m. Fire Chief Scott Ehlers reported that emergency units arrived at the scene by 7:15 p.m. after receiving multiple calls about a fire. Simultaneously, Clearwater Saint Pete Airport received a distress signal from the pilot reporting an emergency.
Authorities say the aircraft, a single-engine Beechcraft Bonanza V35, experienced engine failure before it went off radar approximately three miles north of the runway. The plane crashed into a mobile home, sparking a fire that heavily damaged four trailers.
Officials are still working to confirm the number of people aboard the aircraft. Fire crews continue to monitor and extinguish hotspots while investigators from the FAA and National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) examine the scene.

Aviation Accidents and Safety Concerns
Small aircraft crashes, though less frequent than automobile accidents, pose significant risks to both passengers and those on the ground. Engine failure, weather conditions, and pilot distress are common contributing factors in these incidents. Clearwater, with its proximity to regional airports, has seen aviation-related emergencies that require quick response from both aviation authorities and local fire crews.
Victims of plane crashes, whether aboard the aircraft or in affected structures, often suffer catastrophic injuries or fatalities. Investigations into such accidents can be lengthy, as officials work to determine the cause and whether preventable factors were involved. Families impacted by aviation accidents may face overwhelming emotional and financial burdens, including medical costs, funeral expenses, and property loss.
