Clear Creek County, CO (February 18, 2025) – A major multi-vehicle crash involving nearly a dozen vehicles, including two semi-trucks and a livestock trailer, occurred Monday morning on I-70 west of Idaho Springs. The accident caused significant delays on the icy interstate for hours.
According to Colorado State Patrol, troopers were called to the scene at mile marker 231 just after 10:15 a.m. for an initial report of an eight-vehicle crash in the westbound lanes. Upon arrival, authorities discovered an even larger pileup, with 11 vehicles involved.
Investigators believe the crash was triggered by the driver of an F-350 pickup truck who was traveling too fast for the icy road conditions. The F-350, which was hauling a livestock trailer, crashed and began leaking fuel, prompting Hazmat crews to clean up an estimated 80 gallons of spilled fuel.
Two people were transported to the hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening. Fortunately, no livestock were injured in the crash.
Traffic on I-70 remained backed up for hours as authorities worked to clear the wreckage and investigate the incident. The Colorado State Patrol continues to examine the circumstances leading up to the collision.
Our thoughts are with those injured, and we hope for their full recovery.
