Clay County, FL (January 17, 2025) – A 19-year-old motorcyclist from Orange Park is recovering from critical injuries sustained in a crash that occurred Thursday on Blanding Boulevard, according to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP).

The crash took place as a 2012 Chevrolet Silverado, driven by a 28-year-old Orange Park man, was traveling southbound on Blanding Boulevard. The driver attempted to make a left turn onto Parkwood Drive but failed to yield, causing the motorcycle to collide with the right side of the truck. The motorcyclist, traveling in the right northbound lane, suffered life-threatening injuries in the impact.

Following the collision, the driver of the Silverado fled the scene on foot but was later located and apprehended by deputies from the Clay County Sheriff’s Office. The driver faces multiple charges, including leaving the scene of a crash with serious injuries and driving without a license. Neither the driver nor his 18-year-old passenger, also from Orange Park, sustained injuries in the crash.

The injured teen was transported to Orange Park Medical Center for emergency treatment. The FHP has not released the identities of those involved in the incident.

Our thoughts go to the victims as we hope for their recovery.

Motorcycle Accidents in Florida

Motorcycle accidents are particularly hazardous due to the limited protection for riders. Incidents like this one on Blanding Boulevard highlight the importance of drivers yielding to oncoming traffic when making left turns. Failure to do so can lead to devastating consequences for motorcyclists.

Victims of motorcycle accidents often face extensive recovery periods, costly medical treatments, and emotional trauma. It is crucial for those affected to seek medical attention promptly, document the scene of the crash, and consult with legal professionals to pursue compensation for damages.
