Clarksville, MO (January 2, 2025) – Emergency crews responded to a serious two-vehicle collision on southbound MO 79 near Pike 210 early Wednesday afternoon. The crash occurred at approximately 1:18 PM and involved a 2007 Chevrolet Equinox and a 2019 Chevrolet Silverado.
According to reports from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the Chevrolet Equinox, driven by a 35-year-old man from Clarksville, was traveling southbound behind the Chevrolet Silverado, driven by a 57-year-old man from Elsberry. The Equinox attempted to overtake the Silverado, but its front-right side collided with the Silverado’s rear-left side. This impact caused the Silverado to skid off the road, overturn into a ditch, and sustain extensive damage. The Equinox also veered off the road into a ditch, where it too sustained extensive damage.
Emergency responders, including Pike County Sheriff’s Office and Lincoln County Ambulance services, treated three individuals for moderate injuries. The Equinox driver, along with a 33-year-old female passenger from Dexter, MO, was transported to Mercy Hospital St. Louis for medical care. The Silverado driver was also transported to the same hospital for treatment. None of the individuals involved were wearing safety devices at the time of the crash.
Both vehicles were towed from the scene by Jackson’s Towing. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding this accident. Our thoughts are with those affected, and we wish them a full recovery.
Ditch Collisions and Vehicle Safety in Missouri
Ditch collisions, particularly those involving overturning vehicles, often result in significant injuries and extensive damage. Missouri’s rural roads, like MO 79, can pose unique challenges for drivers due to their winding paths, limited shoulder space, and occasional traffic congestion.
Wearing safety devices, such as seat belts, remains one of the simplest and most effective measures to prevent or reduce injuries in crashes. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), seat belts save thousands of lives annually by minimizing the impact of crashes on vehicle occupants. Missouri drivers are urged to buckle up and exercise caution when overtaking other vehicles on rural roads.
For those involved in collisions, it is critical to document the incident, seek medical care promptly, and report the accident to local authorities. These steps can help injured individuals pursue compensation for damages and medical expenses.
