Clark County, OH (September 25, 2024) – A tragic accident occurred on Tuesday morning, September 24, 2024, shortly before 7 a.m. on Interstate 70, resulting in the death of a 39-year-old driver. The crash took place near milepost 68 in Harmony Township and involved three vehicles.
Preliminary investigations by the Ohio State Highway Patrol revealed that a Kia Forte, driven by 18-year-old Daelyn Jamison from Trotwood, was traveling alongside a Nissan Rogue, driven by Jean Babylor, 39, from Indianapolis, and a Ford Fusion, driven by 58-year-old David Schaller from Springfield. At the time of the crash, the Kia and Ford were positioned in the right lane, while the Nissan occupied the center lane.
According to a spokesperson for the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the Kia made a lane change from the right lane across all lanes of traffic to the left lane but failed to maintain control of the vehicle. After losing control, the Kia veered back from the left lane to the right, colliding with the Nissan in the center lane. The impact caused the Nissan to strike the Ford in the right lane.
Following the collisions, both the Nissan and Ford continued off the right side of the roadway, ultimately crashing into trees. Tragically, Jean Babylor was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.
Babylor’s passenger, 32-year-old Marie Mervil from Springfield, sustained serious, life-threatening injuries and was initially transported to Springfield Regional Medical Center before being airlifted to Miami Valley Hospital for further treatment. Meanwhile, David Schaller, the driver of the Ford, was treated on the scene for minor injuries, and Daelyn Jamison, the driver of the Kia, reported no injuries from the crash.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol is continuing its investigation into the circumstances surrounding this tragic incident.
