Claremont, NC (October 28, 2024) – A tragic single-vehicle crash occurred on Saturday night in Catawba County, resulting in one fatality and injuries to four others. Emergency responders were called to the scene of the accident on US 70 near Heart Drive shortly after 11 p.m.
According to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, five occupants were traveling east on US 70 in a Honda Accord when the driver lost control of the vehicle. The car veered off the left side of the road and collided with several trees.
A passenger, identified as 20-year-old Rocky Houston, was ejected from the vehicle and tragically died at the scene. The driver, 21-year-old Adriel Rodriguez, along with three other passengers, were also thrown from the car but sustained non-life-threatening injuries. All four survivors were transported to a local hospital for medical treatment.
Troopers reported that excessive speed and impairment were contributing factors in the crash, and it was noted that none of the occupants were wearing seatbelts at the time of the accident.
