Church Point, LA (January 29, 2025) – A fatal two-vehicle crash early Tuesday morning on Louisiana Highway 98 (West Gloria Switch) near Canadian Lane claimed the life of 63-year-old Alphonse Credeur of Church Point.
According to Louisiana State Police Troop I, the accident occurred shortly after 6:00 a.m. A preliminary investigation revealed that Credeur was driving a 2017 Ram 1500 eastbound on LA Hwy 98, while a 2001 Peterbilt 18-wheeler was traveling westbound on the same road. For reasons still under investigation, Credeur’s vehicle crossed the centerline and struck the side of the Peterbilt.
Credeur, who was not wearing a seatbelt, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Peterbilt was properly restrained and was not injured in the collision.
Authorities stated that impairment was not suspected on the part of the 18-wheeler driver. A voluntary breath sample was provided and showed no alcohol detected. As part of the standard protocol, a toxicology sample was collected from Credeur and submitted for analysis.
The Louisiana State Police continue to investigate the cause of the accident. Further updates may be released as additional information becomes available.

Fatal Accidents and Seat Belt Safety in Louisiana
Fatal accidents remain a major concern on Louisiana highways, with many crashes resulting from lane departures, driver fatigue, and other unforeseen circumstances. Unrestrained drivers and passengers face a significantly higher risk of severe or fatal injuries in vehicle collisions.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), seat belts reduce the risk of fatal injuries by 45% in passenger vehicles and 60% in trucks or SUVs. Despite these statistics, many fatal crashes still involve drivers and passengers who are not buckled up.
Louisiana law allows families of wrongful death victims to seek financial compensation for funeral expenses, medical costs, and emotional suffering. Investigations into fatal accidents often include toxicology reports, vehicle inspections, and accident reconstruction to determine the cause and any contributing factors.
