Chippewa Falls Township, MN (February 28, 2025) – A two-vehicle collision resulted in injuries Thursday morning at the intersection of 265th Street and County Road 23 in Pope County.

The crash occurred at approximately 7:55 AM, when a Volkswagen Jetta traveling westbound on 265th Street collided with a Chrysler Voyager traveling northbound on County Road 23. Emergency responders, including the Pope County Sheriff’s Office and Glacial Ridge Ambulance, arrived at the scene to assist those involved.

Three occupants of the Chrysler Voyager sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to Glacial Ridge Health System for treatment. The driver, Steven Orlin Klug, 58, of Osakis, MN, along with passengers Levi Ross Landmark, 19, and an 11-year-old male from Glenwood, MN, were all wearing seat belts at the time of the crash. The Volkswagen Jetta’s 16-year-old male driver was not transported to a hospital and was reported to have been wearing a seat belt as well.

Authorities confirmed that no alcohol was involved in the accident. The airbag in the Volkswagen Jetta deployed, while the Chrysler Voyager’s airbag did not. The cause of the collision remains under investigation.

Our thoughts are with those injured, and we hope for a full and swift recovery.

Car Accidents in Minnesota

Rural roads and county highways in Minnesota, including Pope County, often see collisions due to cross-traffic at uncontrolled intersections, reduced visibility, and varying speed limits. Accidents at intersections like 265th Street and County Road 23 can be particularly dangerous when vehicles fail to yield or misjudge distances.

The Minnesota State Patrol and local law enforcement agencies urge drivers to use caution when crossing intersections, particularly on rural roads where stop signs and yield conditions play a crucial role in traffic safety. Common causes of crashes in the state include speeding, distracted driving, failure to yield, and weather-related hazards.

For accident victims, medical expenses, lost wages, and long-term recovery challenges can create additional stress following a crash. Minnesota law allows those injured due to another party’s negligence to seek compensation for their losses. Consulting with a professional can help ensure that individuals receive fair treatment when dealing with insurance claims and legal matters.
