Chillicothe, MO (February 12, 2025) – A pedestrian suffered injuries Tuesday morning after an accident involving two vehicles in a private parking lot off Highway US 65, just north of Chillicothe.
According to reports from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the incident occurred at approximately 8:20 a.m. when a 2000 Volvo Conventional truck, which was parked facing northbound, began to roll forward. The truck struck an unoccupied, parked 2024 Ford F-250, pushing it onto a nearby sidewalk. As a result, the Ford collided with a 42-year-old male pedestrian from Chillicothe before continuing forward and striking a nearby building.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene and assessed the pedestrian’s injuries. He was transported by private vehicle to Hedrick Medical Center for treatment of injuries. The drivers of both vehicles were not reported injured, and both vehicles sustained minor damage. Following the incident, the vehicles came to rest in the parking lot, remaining upright.
Authorities are investigating the circumstances that led to the truck rolling forward, as mechanical failure or improper parking procedures may have been contributing factors.
Pedestrian Accidents in Missouri
Pedestrian accidents can occur in various settings, including roadways, crosswalks, and parking lots. While many incidents involve moving vehicles, parked or rolling vehicles can also pose serious risks, as seen in this Chillicothe accident.
Parking lot accidents involving rolling vehicles often happen due to mechanical malfunctions, inadequate parking brakes, or driver oversight. Missouri law requires drivers to properly secure their vehicles when parked to prevent unintended movement. If a parked vehicle begins to move unexpectedly, it can endanger pedestrians and property, leading to injuries and costly damage.
For pedestrians, even low-speed impacts can cause significant harm. Broken bones, head injuries, and internal trauma are common outcomes in pedestrian-related collisions. Seeking medical attention, even for seemingly minor injuries, is crucial to ensure proper recovery.
Those affected by pedestrian accidents may have legal options to seek compensation for medical expenses, lost wages, and other damages. Understanding liability and available insurance claims can help victims navigate the recovery process. If you or a loved one has been injured in a pedestrian accident, seeking legal guidance can help protect your rights and ensure you receive the support you need.
