Chicago, IL (December 6, 2024) – A crash involving a stolen vehicle left seven people injured Wednesday night in the Streeterville neighborhood of Chicago. The incident occurred shortly after 9:00 PM when a 2015 Jeep Cherokee, which had been reported stolen, ran a red light at the intersection of Michigan Ave and Chicago Ave. The Cherokee collided with a Dodge van, and then struck a Jeep Compass and a Honda SUV in the busy intersection.
Seven people were injured in the crash, including three children. Among the injured were a 16-year-old boy, who was driving the stolen Jeep Cherokee, and his female passenger. The driver fled the scene but was apprehended by responding police officers and taken to Stroger Hospital in fair condition. The woman driving the Dodge van sustained injuries and was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in fair condition. A 6-year-old girl, also in the van, was transported to Lurie Children’s Hospital in fair condition.
In the Jeep Compass, a woman was injured and taken to Northwestern in good condition, while two children—aged 4 and 6—were transported to Lurie Children’s Hospital in fair condition. Fortunately, no one in the Honda SUV was injured.
Authorities confirmed that the Jeep Cherokee had been reported stolen earlier. Both the driver and the passenger face pending charges related to the crash and the theft of the vehicle.
