Cherryvale, KS (November 4, 2024) – A tragic head-on collision occurred Saturday afternoon on US-169, resulting in the deaths of two individuals and serious injuries to another. The accident was reported at approximately 3:57 p.m., about a mile south of Cherryvale in Montgomery County.
According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, the incident unfolded when a 2014 Chevrolet Camaro, traveling southbound on US-169, veered left of center and collided head-on with a northbound 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe. In an attempt to avoid the impending collision, the driver of a 2012 Dodge Ram pickup truck applied the brakes and swerved into the southbound lanes. As the Chevrolet and Hyundai separated, the Camaro rotated back into the southbound lane, where the Dodge pickup struck the driver’s side of the Camaro.
The driver of the Camaro, identified as Joseph P. Savage, 45, of Coffeyville, was pronounced dead at the scene. Reports indicate that Savage was wearing his seat belt at the time of the accident. Similarly, the driver of the Hyundai, Connor A. Barba, 18, from Normal, Oklahoma, also succumbed to his injuries at the scene, and he was wearing his seat belt as well.
A passenger in the Hyundai, Megan C. Barnett, 41, also from Normal, Oklahoma, sustained serious injuries and was transported to Coffeyville Regional Hospital for medical treatment. Barnett was reported to have been wearing her seat belt during the crash.
The driver of the Dodge pickup truck, Theodore J. Osman, 53, from Nowata, Oklahoma, was uninjured in the incident and was also wearing his seat belt.
