Chelsea, IA (January 3, 2025) – A crash involving a semi-truck and a passenger car on Highway 30 eastbound at V Avenue in Chelsea, Tama County, left two adults and three children injured on Wednesday morning. The incident occurred near Chelsea around 10:40 a.m. and was attributed to weather conditions.
According to the Tama County Sheriff’s Office, a semi-truck was turning south onto V Avenue when a passenger car failed to notice the slowing truck and rear-ended it. The five occupants of the car, including two adults and three children aged 9, 11, and 12, were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
The adults sustained minor injuries, while the children suffered facial injuries, with one child diagnosed with a skull fracture. The sheriff’s office noted that the children were not wearing seat belts at the time of the crash. The driver of the semi-truck was unharmed. Authorities are investigating the incident further but have identified weather conditions as a contributing factor.
