Charlotte, NC – One Dead After Wrong-Way Crash at W Sugar Creek Rd Near I-85

Charlotte, NC (September 4, 2024) – A deadly crash near Sugaw Creek Park and I-85 has led to charges against Leonardo Perez. The incident occurred shortly before 11 p.m. when Perez, driving a Chevrolet Silverado, struck Antonio Darnell Harris, 34, who was standing in the median.

Police reported that Perez was driving the wrong way on W Sugar Creek Rd and fled the scene after the crash. Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department charged Perez with felony death by vehicle, felony hit and run, no operator’s license, and reckless driving. The investigation is ongoing.
