Cerro Gordo County, IA (November 2, 2024) – A tragic incident occurred early Saturday morning when a North Iowa woman was struck and killed by a truck while walking along southbound Interstate 35. The Iowa State Patrol reported that the accident took place around 1:16 a.m. near mile marker 194.
According to the patrol, 59-year-old Michelle Schutz of Mason City was walking with another individual when she was hit by a box truck driven by 60-year-old Henry Moss Jr. of Des Moines. Despite the immediate response from emergency services, Schutz was pronounced dead at the scene.
Following the collision, Moss continued driving south on the interstate but was later located by authorities near Des Moines. The incident has raised serious concerns regarding pedestrian safety on highways, particularly in areas where individuals may be walking alongside moving traffic.
