Centreville, DE (December 25, 2024) – The Delaware State Police (DSP) are investigating a tragic multi-car collision that occurred on Thompson’s Bridge Rd, leaving one man dead and another critically injured. The incident took place on the evening of December 24 at approximately 7:30 PM.
According to DSP, a Hyundai, occupied by a 22-year-old Wilmington man and another unidentified man, was traveling northbound on Thompson’s Bridge Rd when it veered into the southbound lane and collided head-on with an oncoming Mazda. The Mazda came to rest near a tree line while the Hyundai remained in the roadway. Shortly after the initial collision, a Kia struck the Hyundai.
Preliminary findings from DSP indicate that the Hyundai occupants exited their vehicle following the head-on collision. The Kia subsequently struck the 22-year-old man. He was transported to the hospital but was later pronounced dead. The other Hyundai occupant was taken to the hospital with critical injuries.
The driver of the Kia, a 31-year-old woman from Lincoln University, Pennsylvania, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was also hospitalized. The driver of the Mazda was not injured in the incident. DSP confirmed that the collision investigation required the road to be closed for approximately five and a half hours.
