Cedar Rapids, IA (December 27, 2024) – A wrong-way crash on Highway 30 near Highway 100 on Thursday evening resulted in injuries to a 73-year-old man. The Iowa State Patrol (ISP) reports that the man was driving his pickup truck westbound in the eastbound lanes when the collision occurred.
Troopers were alerted to the wrong-way driver and were attempting to locate him when the crash happened. Around 6:20 p.m., the man’s truck collided head-on with a car driven by a 31-year-old woman. Thankfully, the woman was not injured in the crash. The wrong-way driver sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a hospital for treatment.
ISP noted that dense fog in the area may have contributed to the crash, as low visibility was reported at the time. The investigation into the circumstances leading up to the collision is ongoing.
