Cedar City, UT (October 29, 2024) – A two-vehicle crash occurred on Monday afternoon shortly after 3 p.m. on 300 West, leading to injuries for one driver. The incident involved a white Jeep Trailhawk SUV and a green Chevrolet pickup truck at the intersection of 300 West and Harding Avenue, located just north of the Southern Utah University Police station.
According to Cedar City Police Chief Darin Adams, preliminary investigations suggest that the white Jeep SUV was traveling north on 300 West when the green Chevy truck, coming west out of Harding Avenue, attempted to make a turn. The front end of the pickup truck clipped the passing Jeep, causing it to flip onto its driver’s side.
Emergency responders from the Cedar City Fire Department arrived at the scene to assist. Crews used hydraulic tools to carefully cut off the roof and rear door of the Jeep to extricate the driver, an adult woman. Fortunately, she did not appear to have any serious injuries, only minor scrapes and scratches. Emergency personnel took precautions to stabilize her spine during the extraction process.
The woman was transported to Cedar City Hospital by Gold Cross Ambulance for further evaluation and treatment. A tow truck was called to remove the wreckage from the scene.
Meanwhile, the driver of the pickup truck received a citation for failure to yield to cross traffic while making the turn. Chief Adams noted that no injuries were reported for anyone in the pickup truck. Despite sustaining moderate damage to its front end on the driver’s side, the truck remained drivable and was able to leave the scene shortly after 3:30 p.m.
In addition to Cedar City Police and Cedar City Fire, the Southern Utah University Police also responded to the incident. Although traffic in the area was not particularly busy, it was impacted for approximately 45 minutes while the scene was cleared.
