Cavendish, VT (October 2, 2024) – A serious three-vehicle crash occurred on Tuesday afternoon, October 1, in Cavendish, resulting in several injuries, including one driver with life-threatening injuries. The incident took place on Route 103 in the Proctorsville Gulf area, prompting a swift response from local emergency services.

According to Vermont State Police, 41-year-old Tommy Newhall of Chester was driving northbound when he sideswiped another vehicle. The impact caused the second vehicle to roll over multiple times before it came to a stop on its wheels. Newhall’s Cadillac continued moving forward and collided head-on with a third vehicle, resulting in both vehicles coming to a halt in the southbound lane.

Emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene, and Newhall was airlifted to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center due to the severity of his injuries. Authorities reported that his condition was life-threatening. The occupants of the other two vehicles included a pair from Keene, New Hampshire, and a woman from Ludlow, Vermont, along with two children. Fortunately, they all sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were transported by ambulance to Springfield Hospital for further evaluation.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation, with Vermont State Police actively working to determine the circumstances leading up to the collision. Multiple departments assisted at the scene, including Chester Police and Ambulance, Springfield Ambulance, Ludlow Ambulance, and Proctorsville Fire Department. As a result of the investigation, Route 103 was temporarily closed to traffic.

Our thoughts are with all those affected by this serious accident, especially the individuals who sustained injuries.
