Castro County, TX (November 20, 2024) – A tragic two-vehicle crash in Castro County has claimed the life of a Hart man and left four others injured. The collision occurred last Wednesday, November 13, at approximately 6:10 p.m. at the intersection of FM 145 and FM 168.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), a 2013 Acura ILX was traveling eastbound on FM 145 when it failed to yield the right of way at the intersection. The vehicle entered the path of a southbound 1999 Chevrolet Silverado on FM 168, which does not have a stop sign, and was struck on the driver’s side.

The occupants of the Acura, all from Hart, Texas, included a 16-year-old driver and passengers identified as 41-year-old Celso Garcia-Chingo, 24-year-old Raul Quino-Franco, and 27-year-old Joaquin Rodriguez-Sima. The driver of the Silverado was 36-year-old Pedro Guardad of Amarillo.

Garcia-Chingo sustained life-threatening injuries and was transported to an area hospital, where he tragically passed away two days later. The 16-year-old driver, Quino-Franco, Rodriguez-Sima, and Guardad were all transported to local hospitals, treated for their injuries, and later released.

The crash remains under investigation by DPS.

Our deepest condolences go out to the family and loved ones of Celso Garcia-Chingo, and we wish a full recovery to those injured.

Intersection Accidents in Texas

Intersections, particularly those with differing traffic control measures, are common sites for serious accidents like the one at FM 145 and FM 168. Failing to yield the right of way is a frequent cause of such collisions, often resulting in severe injuries or fatalities when vehicles collide at high speeds.

Victims and their families often face significant challenges, including medical expenses, lost wages, and emotional trauma. Texas law allows those injured due to another’s negligence to seek compensation for damages. Additionally, families of victims who succumb to their injuries may pursue wrongful death claims. Consulting with legal professionals is crucial to navigating these complex situations.

To reduce intersection-related crashes, drivers are urged to exercise caution, obey traffic signs, and ensure they have a clear view before entering intersections. Defensive driving and attentiveness can help prevent tragic outcomes.

If you or a loved one has been affected by a motor vehicle accident, resources are available to provide assistance and guidance. Understanding your legal options is an important step toward addressing the aftermath of a crash.
