Carthage, MO (October 26, 2024) – A tragic accident occurred early this Saturday morning, October 26. on MO-96, approximately half a mile east of Carthage, resulting in the death of one driver. At around 2:35 a.m., the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office was notified of a serious collision involving two vehicles.
Preliminary investigations reveal that a 2003 GMC Sierra, driven by 43-year-old Ronnie D. Gillmore from Reeds, MO, crossed the centerline and collided head-on with a 2022 Freightliner, operated by 58-year-old Kevin W. Fields from Marionville, MO. The impact was severe, leading to extensive damage to both vehicles.
Following the collision, Gillmore was ejected from his vehicle and subsequently struck by the Freightliner as both vehicles veered off the right side of the road. Emergency responders arrived on the scene, but unfortunately, Gillmore was pronounced dead at 2:45 a.m. by Jasper County Deputy Coroner Andrew Roughton.
