Carter County, MO (January 30, 2025) – A serious two-vehicle crash occurred Wednesday evening on US 60, five miles east of Ellsinore, leaving two people injured.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported that the crash happened around 5:45 p.m. when an 81-year-old woman driving a 2021 Toyota RAV4 attempted to enter US 60 from a county road. At the same time, a 39-year-old man from Blodgett, driving a 2003 Lincoln Town Car westbound, crested a hill and struck the rear of the Toyota. The impact forced the RAV4 off the roadway.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene and transported the driver of the Lincoln Town Car to Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center with serious injuries. A 12-year-old female passenger in the Toyota RAV4 sustained injuries and was taken to the same hospital by private conveyance. The condition of the Toyota’s driver was not immediately available.
Both vehicles sustained total damage and were removed from the scene by Brooke’s Towing at the request of the county department. Authorities continue to investigate the crash.
Our thoughts go out to the injured individuals, and we hope for their full recovery.
Rear-End Collisions and Highway Safety in Missouri
Rear-end collisions are among the most common types of crashes on Missouri highways, often leading to severe injuries, particularly when high speeds are involved. When a vehicle enters a major roadway from a side street or county road, timing and visibility are crucial to preventing accidents. Additionally, hills and curves can reduce sight distance, making it harder for approaching drivers to react in time.
Missouri traffic laws require drivers to maintain a safe following distance and adjust their speed to roadway conditions, particularly in areas where visibility is reduced. In crashes like this one, driver attentiveness, safe merging practices, and defensive driving techniques can significantly reduce the risk of serious accidents.
For those injured in rear-end crashes, understanding legal and medical options is essential. Medical bills, rehabilitation, and insurance claims can become overwhelming after an accident, making it important to seek guidance on the best path to recovery.
If you or a loved one has been injured in a highway accident, seeking professional support can help you explore your options and navigate the recovery process.
