Cardiff, ID (September 12, 2024) – An explosion at the Atkinson Distributing gas station in Cardiff on Wednesday afternoon, September 11, critically injured two people and left two others feared dead. The blast occurred around 3 p.m., and the fire continued to burn throughout the night. The two burn victims were airlifted to a nearby hospital, while officials believe more people were inside the station.
Two additional individuals were transported to area hospitals with unknown injuries. Investigators are working to determine the cause of the explosion, which occurred as a fuel tanker was offloading at the station. The debris field from the explosion spans two city blocks.
