Capitol Heights, MD (March 9, 2025) – A tragic multi-vehicle crash in Capitol Heights on Friday evening resulted in the death of a child and left multiple people injured, according to the Maryland Office of the Attorney General (OAG).
The incident began around 6:25 p.m. when an officer with the District Heights Police Department (DHPD) attempted to stop a vehicle in the 6000 block of Marlboro Pike. The driver initially stopped but then sped away, prompting officers to relay a description of the vehicle via radio.
Shortly afterward, another DHPD officer and a Capitol Heights Police Department (CHPD) officer spotted the vehicle on Addison Road South and attempted another stop. The driver fled again and ultimately crashed into four vehicles in the 1200 block of Addison Road.
Emergency responders arrived to find multiple people injured. A woman and a minor who were in one of the vehicles were transported to the hospital, where the child later succumbed to their injuries. The woman sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
Authorities took the driver of the fleeing vehicle into custody and transported them to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Other individuals involved in the crash remained at the scene and sustained only minor injuries.
The crash remains under investigation by the OAG’s Independent Investigations Division, as it involved a police pursuit. Further updates may be provided as officials continue reviewing the circumstances surrounding the incident.
