Cape Girardeau, MO (December 03, 2024) – A tragic crash occurred on December 2, 2024, at approximately 4:24 PM, on southbound Interstate 55, about 9 miles north of Jackson, MO. The incident involved two vehicles and resulted in the death of a 29-year-old male driver from Perryville, MO. Emergency responders were quick to the scene, but despite their efforts, the driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
The crash occurred when the driver of a 2003 Ford Ranger (vehicle #1) traveled off the right side of the roadway and struck the rear of a 2003 Chevrolet Avalanche (vehicle #2). This impact caused the Ford Ranger to overturn. The driver of the Ford Ranger, a 29-year-old male, was not wearing a safety device and sustained fatal injuries. He was transported by the Cape County Coroner to the coroner’s office. A 28-year-old male occupant of the Ford Ranger also suffered serious injuries and was transported by Cape County Ambulance to St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau for treatment.
The 18-year-old female driver of the Chevrolet Avalanche, from Cape Girardeau, MO, was unharmed in the crash. Her vehicle, which suffered total damage, was left roadside. The Ford Ranger, also heavily damaged, was towed by Seyers Garage.
