Cape Coral, FL (November 12, 2024) – A man sustained severe injuries after being electrocuted inside an LCEC substation located at 4701 SE 8th Place on Sunday evening. Cape Coral Fire crews were dispatched to the substation at 7:35 p.m. for a fire investigation but discovered the man inside with burns covering his entire body.
Accessing the injured individual proved challenging as he was trapped behind the 10- to 12-foot wall surrounding the substation. Emergency responders worked to make contact and stabilize him. Due to the extent of his injuries, a LeeFlight helicopter landed in a vacant parking lot near the Winn-Dixie plaza on Cape Coral Pkwy E to transport the victim. Just before 9:00 p.m., he was airlifted as a “Trauma Alert” to HCA Florida Blake Hospital in Bradenton, one of the state’s six comprehensive burn centers.
The circumstances leading to the man’s presence in the substation remain unclear. Cape Coral Fire Inspectors are investigating the incident to determine how he gained access and what his intentions may have been. LCEC crews were observed outside the substation shortly after 9:00 p.m., but no further updates have been provided.
Our thoughts are with the injured man as he undergoes treatment, and we wish him a full and swift recovery.
