Canton, GA (November 13, 2024) – A tragic hit-and-run crash claimed the life of a 79-year-old pedestrian on Tuesday evening near the intersection of Cumming Highway and Jordan Lane in Cherokee County. Authorities have arrested the alleged driver, 24-year-old London Best, following the fatal incident.
According to the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office, Sandra Fitts of Canton was struck around 6:30 PM by an Amazon delivery truck. Deputies responding to the scene spotted the truck turning onto Bishop Drive, a nearby side street. With the assistance of a Canton police officer, authorities located the truck, which displayed damage consistent with evidence at the scene of the crash.
The investigation confirmed the Amazon truck was involved in the incident. Best, the driver, was arrested and charged with first-degree vehicular homicide and hit-and-run resulting in death. At the time of the crash, he was delivering packages in the area. An Amazon spokesperson, Austin Stowe, confirmed that Best is no longer eligible to work on behalf of the company pending the investigation, offering condolences to the victim’s family and support for law enforcement.
