Cañon City, CO (December 23, 2024) – A motorist lost their life in a tragic multi-vehicle crash on Highway 50 outside Cañon City Saturday night. The Colorado State Patrol reported the incident occurred just after 8:00 PM, involving a westbound vehicle that veered off the roadway.
According to Trooper Sherri Mendez, the vehicle, a Toyota Prius, struck a guardrail before rolling over across the roadway and hitting the median. The driver was ejected onto the eastbound lanes, where they were struck by three oncoming vehicles. Tragically, the motorist was pronounced dead at the scene.
The crash caused significant disruptions on Highway 50 as authorities conducted their investigation and worked to clear the area. No other injuries have been reported at this time. The identity of the deceased has not been released, pending notification of next of kin.
