Candia, NH (December 16, 2024) – Emergency crews responded to a serious single-vehicle crash late Sunday morning on New Boston Rd. The Candia Fire Department received the call at approximately 11:32 a.m. regarding a reported crash involving a vehicle with significant damage and a potential fire.

Candia Fire Captain Michael Kelley arrived at the scene within two minutes, locating the vehicle overturned and partially submerged in a small wetland area near 436 New Boston Rd. The engine compartment was already on fire, and flames breached into the passenger compartment moments after the first responders arrived. Bystanders had assisted the sole occupant, the driver, who had exited the vehicle and was lying on the roadside.

Chief Dean Young established incident command as Ambulance 2 arrived to treat the driver, who was subsequently transported to Elliot Hospital under a trauma alert. The driver sustained serious but reportedly non-life-threatening injuries. Engine 2 conducted fire suppression operations and performed an overhaul of the vehicle to ensure the fire was fully extinguished.

The crash remains under investigation by the Candia Police Department. Officials have not released further details regarding the cause of the incident. Local authorities expressed gratitude to the bystanders who quickly assisted the injured driver and emphasized the importance of slowing down and avoiding distractions while driving.

Motor Vehicle Crashes in New Hampshire

Serious single-vehicle accidents, like the one on New Boston Rd, highlight the importance of maintaining vigilance and safety on New Hampshire roads. In 2024, local emergency services have responded to multiple crashes across the state, some resulting in fatalities or critical injuries. Speed and distraction remain leading contributors to accidents, underscoring the importance of safe driving practices.

New Hampshire’s rural roads can pose additional risks, especially during winter months when road conditions may deteriorate quickly. Wetlands, uneven terrain, and poor visibility can exacerbate crashes when combined with high speeds or inattentive driving. State officials and local agencies encourage drivers to adhere to posted speed limits, avoid distractions, and always wear seat belts to reduce the risk of injury or fatality in the event of a collision.

If you or a loved one has been involved in a serious crash, it’s crucial to seek medical attention promptly and document the details of the accident for any necessary follow-up. Understanding your legal options and responsibilities can also be beneficial during recovery.
