Camilla, GA (December 30, 2024) – A tragic explosion occurred Thursday night at the Tyson Foods plant in Camilla, leaving one person dead and several others injured. Authorities have identified the deceased as 61-year-old Bajarma Batozhatov of Las Vegas, Nevada.
According to Deputy Coroner Robbie Willis, Bajarma Batozhatov was asleep in the sleeper cabin of a semitruck at the time of the explosion. Her husband, Tcyden Batozhatov, a truck driver, was inside the building when the incident occurred. He was aware of his wife’s presence in the truck and was outside with law enforcement after the explosion.
Several other individuals sustained injuries in the explosion, but the exact number and severity of injuries have not yet been disclosed. Emergency crews worked to extinguish the flames, successfully putting them out by 2:30 a.m. Friday. The explosion caused part of the building to collapse, further complicating rescue and recovery efforts.
Mitchell County Coroner Jamey Thompson expressed condolences, saying, “I know it’s a horrible tragedy for the victims that were burned and also to the victim that did die. My thoughts and prayers go out to everyone involved.”
Camilla Fire Chief Jamie Sullivan confirmed that the fire had been contained, but details regarding the extent of the damage and the cause of the explosion remain under investigation.
We extend our heartfelt sympathies to the family of the deceased individual.
