Callaway County, MO (February 23, 2025) – A two-vehicle crash on eastbound I-70 near mile marker 141.8 resulted in injuries Friday morning, prompting emergency response efforts.
The accident occurred at approximately 8:36 a.m. when a 2016 Honda Accord, traveling in the right lane, suffered a tire blowout. The driver lost control, causing the vehicle to skid sideways into the left lane, directly in front of a 2014 Ford Edge. The Ford was unable to avoid the collision, striking the Honda and leaving both vehicles disabled in the roadway.
Both vehicles sustained total damage and had to be towed from the scene. A 24-year-old woman from Bowling Green, who was driving the Ford, sustained minor injuries and was transported to Boone Hospital by private means. A 1-year-old child, a passenger in the Ford, also suffered minor injuries and was taken to the same hospital for evaluation. The driver of the Honda, a 21-year-old woman from Wentzville, was not reported to have injuries.
Authorities continue to investigate the crash while reminding drivers to ensure their vehicles are properly maintained to help prevent incidents such as tire failures.

Tire Blowouts and Highway Safety in Missouri
Tire-related failures, such as blowouts, are a significant cause of highway accidents, often leading to loss of control and collisions with other vehicles. High-speed roadways like I-70 present additional dangers when a vehicle suddenly skids into another lane, as reaction times are limited.
According to Missouri crash data, a large percentage of tire blowout incidents result from low tire pressure, worn tread, or road debris. To reduce the risk of these types of accidents, drivers should regularly inspect their tires, check air pressure, and replace worn-out tires before they become a hazard.
Motorists are also encouraged to remain vigilant on highways, maintain safe following distances, and be prepared to react to sudden movements from other vehicles. Defensive driving techniques can help prevent secondary collisions in situations where another driver loses control.
If you or a loved one has been involved in a highway accident, seeking medical attention and understanding your legal rights are crucial steps in the recovery process.
