Calhoun County, SC (October 24, 2024) – A tragic accident occurred Wednesday night on Interstate 26, resulting in one fatality and another injury. At approximately 8:30 p.m., the South Carolina Highway Patrol reported a two-vehicle collision on the westbound stretch of I-26, specifically near mile marker 135.
According to Master Trooper Brandon Bolt, the incident involved a 2021 Toyota SUV and a 2017 Ford sedan. The Toyota was slowing down for traffic when it was struck from behind by the Ford sedan. The impact led to the unfortunate death of the driver of the Toyota SUV, whose identity has not yet been released by the Calhoun County Coroner’s Office.
A passenger in the Toyota sustained injuries and was airlifted to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. However, further details regarding the passenger’s condition have not been made available at this time. The driver of the Ford sedan, who was the sole occupant of that vehicle, did not report any injuries. Fortunately, no additional injuries were recorded in connection with this incident.
