Cabazon, CA (October 15, 2024) – A tragic accident occurred on Thursday night involving a suspect being pursued by Riverside County Sheriff’s deputies, resulting in the death of a 23-year-old woman identified as Carlie Membrino of Banning. The incident took place at approximately 9:35 p.m. on October 10, at the intersection of Seminole Drive and Malki Road.
According to the California Highway Patrol, deputies initially spotted a Ford Mustang driving the wrong way on Seminole Drive. Suspecting the driver was under the influence, they attempted to pull the vehicle over. However, the driver fled, leading to a high-speed chase by the deputies.
While traveling westbound on Seminole Drive, the suspect failed to stop at the intersection of Malki Road and collided with the rear of a Nissan Versa that was stopped to make a southbound turn onto Malki Road. The force of the impact caused the Mustang to slide and crash into a nearby business, igniting a fire in the building.
Carlie Membrino, the driver of the Nissan, was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the Mustang was transported to Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs with serious injuries.
