Butler, PA (October 22, 2024) – Emergency services responded to a serious accident involving a triaxle truck that overturned near the railroad trestle at 4204 William Flynn Hwy in Mercer Township on October 22. At approximately 10:41 a.m., Station 34 and Superior EMS were dispatched to the scene to assist.
Upon arrival, it was reported that one male was out of the vehicle but had sustained a head injury. The roadway was completely blocked due to the accident, prompting immediate action from emergency responders. Command was established at the scene, and Station 33 was requested to close Route 8 at Route 108 to facilitate the emergency response.
As the situation developed, it became clear that air medical support would be necessary. At 10:47 a.m., responders requested air medical services to be on standby, directing them to a grass field just north of the trestle for a safe landing zone. Additional units, including SQ-34 and EN-34, were also en route to assist with the incident, with SQ-34 tasked with closing Route 8 at Route 58.
By 10:51 a.m., it was reported that additional manpower might be needed, leading to a request for Station 37 to respond. Stat 8, the air medical unit, was noted to be approximately nine minutes away from the scene.
At 10:57 a.m., EN-33-2 confirmed that Route 8 was closed at Route 108 to ensure the safety of responders and the public. Stat 8 arrived on the ground at 11:06 a.m. and was airborne shortly after, transporting the injured male to Presby for further medical evaluation and care.
