Pedestrian Safety in School Zones
Incidents like this highlight the importance of pedestrian safety, particularly in school zones. Crossing guards play a critical role in ensuring the safety of children and families near schools, but they are often at risk due to distracted or careless driving.
New Jersey law mandates strict adherence to traffic rules in school zones, including reduced speed limits and yielding to pedestrians in crosswalks. Despite these regulations, accidents continue to occur, underscoring the need for enhanced safety measures such as increased signage, traffic calming devices, and driver awareness campaigns.
