Buffalo County, SD – Fatal Crash on SD Hwy 34 Claims One Life

Buffalo County, SD (September 2, 2024) – A fatal single-vehicle crash early Sunday morning left one person dead and another with life-threatening injuries. At approximately 3:00 a.m., a 2008 Mercury SUV traveling west on SD Hwy 34, about three miles east of Ft. Thompson, left the roadway. 

vehicle vaulted over a driveway approach and crashed into a ditch. The 38-year-old male driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The 23-year-old male passenger suffered life-threatening injuries. Neither occupant was wearing a seatbelt. 

Names have not been released, and the South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating the incident.
