Buckeye, AZ (January 16, 2025) – A collision involving a school bus and a pickup truck towing a trailer resulted in multiple individuals being transported to the hospital on Wednesday afternoon. The crash occurred shortly before 2:30 p.m. at the intersection of Rainbow Rd and Sundance Pkwy, south of Yuma Rd.

Emergency responders arrived promptly at the scene to evaluate the individuals involved. According to Buckeye police, eight students, the school bus driver, and the driver and passenger of the pickup truck were assessed for possible injuries. As a precaution, three students and the bus driver were transported to a local hospital for further evaluation. The pickup truck and school bus were part of a third-party transport company, Desert Choice Transport, and it remains unclear which school the students attend.

Traffic in the area was restricted while emergency crews worked to secure the scene. Drivers were urged to use alternate routes, including Lower Buckeye Rd and Watson Rd, to avoid delays. A reunification center for parents was set up at the Buckeye Union High School District (BUHSD) Learning Center located at 751 N. 215th Ave.

Authorities are continuing their investigation into the cause of the crash, and further updates are expected as details become available.

School Bus Accidents in Arizona

School bus accidents, like the one in Buckeye, highlight the importance of safety measures for student transportation. While buses are generally considered one of the safest modes of travel for children, collisions involving buses can still result in injuries due to the size and weight of these vehicles, especially in incidents involving smaller vehicles like pickup trucks.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the majority of injuries in school bus accidents occur to passengers of the other vehicle involved, but students and bus drivers are also at risk. Preventative measures such as maintaining safe driving speeds, ensuring vehicles are well-maintained, and following traffic laws can reduce the likelihood of such incidents.

For families affected by school bus accidents, it is important to seek medical attention even if injuries seem minor, as symptoms can sometimes appear later. Consulting with legal professionals can help clarify options for addressing damages, ensuring accountability, and securing compensation for medical expenses or emotional distress.
