Brookings, SD (September 9, 2024) – A fatal collision on I-29 claimed the life of a 57-year-old man. The crash involved a Toyota RAV4 and a motorcycle near mile marker 119, about 13 miles south of Brookings, at 5:35 PM on Sunday, September 8. The motorcycle rider died at the scene, while the SUV driver, a 21-year-old male, suffered minor injuries.

Preliminary reports indicate the SUV was traveling north when a sudden lane change by another vehicle exposed the motorcycle, which was merging into traffic from the shoulder. The SUV hit the motorcycle, sending both vehicles rolling into the east ditch. The motorcyclist was ejected from his bike during the crash.
