Bronx, NY (September 3, 2024) – A pedestrian was killed early Monday morning after being struck by a vehicle on the Major Deegan Expy near the Macombs Dam Bridge. The incident occurred around 1:50 a.m., within the 44th Precinct, according to the New York City Police Department.
Officers responded to a 911 call and found an unidentified man in his 40s, unconscious and unresponsive. EMS transported him to NYC Health and Hospitals/Lincoln, where he was pronounced dead.
Investigators determined the pedestrian was attempting to cross the expressway when a southbound 2008 Toyota Rav4 struck him. The driver, 43-year-old William Day of Yonkers, was arrested shortly after the accident. Authorities are investigating the incident and will provide updates as more information becomes available.
