Bristol, VT (February 18, 2025) – Emergency responders were called to a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of VT Route 116S and Hewitt Road on Saturday afternoon. The collision, which occurred around 3:13 p.m., involved a 2022 RAM truck and a 2022 Subaru Crosstrek.
Authorities reported that 42-year-old Michael Lacross of Middlebury was driving south on VT Route 116S when he attempted a left-hand turn onto Hewitt Road. In doing so, he failed to yield to a northbound Subaru Crosstrek operated by 17-year-old Analise Wood of Hinesburg. The front of Wood’s vehicle struck the passenger side of Lacross’s truck, resulting in significant damage.
Both vehicles came to an uncontrolled stop following the impact. Lacross, who was properly restrained, sustained minor injuries and was transported to Porter Medical Center by ambulance for treatment. Wood, who was also wearing a seat belt, was uninjured. Authorities confirmed that the Subaru Crosstrek was totaled in the crash, while the RAM truck sustained passenger-side damage.
The Bristol Police Department, Bristol Fire Department, and Bristol Rescue Squad assisted the Vermont State Police at the scene. Officials noted that road conditions were dry, and the weather was cloudy at the time of the crash. Following an investigation, Lacross was cited for violating Vermont law regarding left-hand turns, which carries a fine and point penalties.
The incident remains under review. Our thoughts are with those affected by this incident, and we hope for a full recovery for the injured
Car Accidents in Vermont
Collisions at intersections are a common concern on Vermont roadways, as left-turn crashes often result in serious injuries and vehicle damage. This recent crash in Bristol underscores the importance of yielding to oncoming traffic and exercising caution when making left turns. Failing to do so can lead to devastating consequences, particularly at busy intersections like VT Route 116S and Hewitt Road.
In Vermont, drivers making left turns must yield to vehicles traveling in the opposite direction before proceeding safely. Violating this law can result in citations and an increased risk of accidents. Even when road conditions are dry, misjudging the speed or distance of approaching traffic can lead to dangerous collisions. Defensive driving, including reducing speed at intersections and staying alert to surrounding vehicles, can help prevent these incidents.
Those injured in crashes caused by failure to yield may have the right to seek compensation for medical expenses, vehicle damage, and other losses. Understanding your legal options following an accident is crucial.
