Brevard County, FL (February 11, 2025) – A Titusville man sustained serious injuries after being ejected from his pickup truck during a collision with a semi-truck on Monday afternoon, according to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP). The accident occurred around 3:25 p.m. near mile marker 210 on Interstate 95 in Cocoa.
Emergency responders, including paramedics and fire crews, quickly arrived on the scene to provide immediate medical assistance. The 65-year-old driver of the Ford F-150, who was ejected from his vehicle during the crash, was transported to Holmes Regional Hospital with serious injuries. No other injuries were reported, and the semi-truck driver was unharmed.
According to FHP’s crash report, the pickup truck was traveling north in the center lane of I-95 while the semi-truck was in the outside lane. The pickup made an improper lane change, causing its right rear to collide with the left front of the semi-truck. The impact forced the pickup off the road, where it overturned and struck a fence before coming to rest.
Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash to determine if additional factors contributed to the incident.
Our thoughts are with the injured driver, and we wish him a full and swift recovery.
Truck Accidents in Florida
Accidents involving semi-trucks, like the one that occurred on I-95 in Brevard County, often result in serious injuries due to the sheer size and weight of commercial vehicles. Florida’s extensive network of highways, including I-95, sees heavy truck traffic daily, increasing the risk of collisions with passenger vehicles.
Improper lane changes are a common cause of accidents, particularly when drivers underestimate the speed and proximity of larger vehicles like semi-trucks. The aftermath can be especially severe when a vehicle overturns or when occupants are ejected, as seen in this tragic incident. Proper use of seat belts is critical in reducing the risk of ejection and minimizing injuries during such crashes.
Truck accidents can have far-reaching consequences, from physical injuries to emotional trauma and financial burdens due to medical expenses and lost wages. It is essential for drivers to exercise caution when navigating around large trucks, ensuring they maintain safe distances and signal lane changes appropriately. Additionally, truck drivers must adhere to strict safety protocols, including monitoring blind spots and maintaining control over their vehicles at all times.
