Brentwood, NY (January 6, 2025) – A Suffolk County police officer was airlifted to the hospital with serious injuries following a multi-vehicle crash on the Long Island Expressway (LIE) near exit 55 Sunday night. The incident occurred at approximately 6:10 PM, according to Suffolk County police.
Reports indicate that the officer’s patrol car was involved in a serious collision on the westbound side of the highway between exits 53 and 55. The officer sustained significant physical injuries and was transported by helicopter to a nearby hospital. The medical helicopter landed on a temporarily closed section of the usually busy highway, according to a News 12 crew on the scene.
