Branford, FL (December 23, 2024) – A tragic accident claimed the life of an 86-year-old woman from Suwannee on Sunday night in Suwannee County. The crash, which occurred just after 7 p.m., also resulted in injuries to multiple individuals, according to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP).
The collision happened at the intersection of County Road 137 and State Road 247. Authorities reported that the elderly driver was traveling north on County Rd 137 when she stopped at a stop sign before attempting to make a left turn onto State Rd 247. During the turn, her vehicle entered the path of a car driven by a 35-year-old Suwannee woman traveling northeast on State Rd 247, leading to a devastating collision.
Emergency responders provided immediate assistance at the scene. The 86-year-old driver was transported to Shands Hospital in Gainesville, where she tragically succumbed to her injuries. Her passenger was also taken to Shands for medical evaluation. Meanwhile, the 35-year-old driver sustained minor injuries and was taken to HCA Florida Lake City Hospital, along with her six passengers, who were evaluated for injuries.
The crash remains under investigation by the FHP as they work to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
