Bozeman, MT (January 13, 2025) – A tragic car crash on Huffine Lane Saturday night resulted in the deaths of two individuals and left a 16-year-old boy injured. The accident occurred near mile marker 84.5 at approximately 8:07 p.m., according to the Montana Highway Patrol (MHP).

Officials reported that a 41-year-old man from Arizona and his female passenger were traveling eastbound on Huffine Lane in a Chevrolet Silverado when their vehicle crossed the center line into the westbound lanes. At the same time, a 16-year-old boy from Bozeman was driving a Ford F250 in the westbound passing lane. The two trucks collided head-on, leading to devastating consequences.

Emergency responders arrived swiftly at the scene. Sadly, the Arizona man and his passenger were pronounced dead at the site of the crash. The teen driver was transported to Bozeman Deaconess Hospital for treatment. As of now, his condition remains unknown.

MHP indicated that all individuals involved in the collision were wearing seatbelts at the time. Investigators suspect that alcohol and excessive speed may have contributed to the crash. Additionally, snowy and icy road conditions were noted as potential factors in the incident.

Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding this heartbreaking event. “Our thoughts are with those affected by this tragic accident,” officials shared, urging drivers to exercise caution, especially during winter weather conditions.

Winter Driving Safety in Montana

Montana’s harsh winters often create hazardous driving conditions, with snow and ice significantly increasing the risk of accidents. Drivers are encouraged to take extra precautions to ensure safety on the roads during this season.

Tips for Safe Winter Driving:

  1. Slow Down: Reducing speed is crucial on icy or snowy roads to maintain control of your vehicle.
  2. Increase Following Distance: Leave more space between your car and others to allow extra time to brake.
  3. Avoid Distractions: Stay focused on the road and avoid using electronic devices while driving.
  4. Prepare Your Vehicle: Ensure that your vehicle’s tires, brakes, and wipers are in good condition and that you have an emergency kit on hand.
  5. Drive Sober: Alcohol and drugs impair reaction times and decision-making abilities, further increasing the risk of accidents.

Montana Highway Patrol continues to remind drivers of the importance of adhering to traffic laws and adjusting to road conditions to prevent tragedies like the one on Huffine Lane.
